Laurel, MD (September 22, 2025) – Mayor Keith R. Sydnor and the City of Laurel are seeking interested individuals to be considered for recommendation to serve on the State of Maryland’s Patuxent River Commission (PRC).
The PRC was created in 1984, four years after the Maryland General Assembly passed the Patuxent River Watershed Act of 1980 to protect one of the state’s most important natural resources. Its membership includes representatives from the seven counties that border the river, the City of Laurel, and additional watershed stakeholders and interest groups.
As steward of the Patuxent River, the Commission is committed to leading and inspiring actions to protect, enhance, and restore river species while safeguarding the watershed’s natural, cultural, economic, and recreational values. Serving on the PRC provides a meaningful opportunity to shape policies that impact both the environment and the communities connected to the river.
Residents of the City of Laurel who are interested in this opportunity are invited to submit the following by Monday, September 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.:
- A current résumé
- A letter of interest outlining qualifications that make you the ideal candidate
Materials should be submitted to: laurelmayor@laurel.md.us
For additional questions, residents may contact the Mayor’s Office at 301-725-5300, ext. 2124.
