Can items be placed in the beige container without using the compostable bags ?

• Yes, but this is not recommended. Every scrap may not shake out cleanly and your container could become smelly and dirty. Alternatives to using smaller compostable bags include using large paper yard debris bags or purchasing 35-gallon compostable bags on-line.

Should the cart be locked on pickup day?

• Yes. The lock is meant to keep critters out of your cart.  Our laborers will unlock the cart when they pick up on your designated pickup day.

Do I have to put my cart out every week?

• We strongly suggest putting out your Composting Cart every week, especially in the summer months. Public Works will stop by every week on your collection day to check.

Can dog hair and cat hair go into the composting container?

• Yes. Never would have guessed that one!

How do I get more composting bags?

• Bags for countertop bins can be purchased at the Joseph R. Robison Laurel Municipal Center, 8103 Sandy Spring Road, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Maryland Environmental Science (MES)-approved compostable bags can also be purchased online or from the local Giant Food grocery store. Brown paper shopping bags can be used as an alternative.
